Caribbean inconsistencies

The Caribbean still has a long way to go to unite the counties.

This article from the Jamaica Gleaner highlights some of the inconsistencies that still exist within the Caribbean region. Although it is not an overly positive article it is a good read to understand some of the problems your may encounter when traveling through the area. (One other area he does not mention is the different between 50Hz and 60Hz throughout the islands. Unless your hair dryer, phone charger, etc can handle both frequencies you will have problems and potential damage)

It’s not like home – but that’s what you wanted, right?!

For you job seekers this isn’t going to be much of a problem unless your job requires inter-island travel. Be sure to ask about this in your interview.

However this does bring up the fact that personal electrical items you use at home may not work where you are headed. Our last time down we sold almost everything before we left and bought new locally. I wouldn’t bother packing all the extra stuff – travel light!

What’s your experience?  Have you had problems with electronic items in your travels?
