Contacting Caribbean Employers

You've done the research, found potential Caribbean employers, - now what?

Send your Cover Letter and CV:

You know what they say about first impressions; you want yours to be the best you can.
Using the email addresses you copied in Step 2, now create an email message cover letter and attach your CV.

  • Keep it simple - don't use fancy fonts! Keep simple and easy to read
  • Keep it short - the purpose of your cover letter is to interest them to read your CV and get an interview
  • Be specific - In the subject field of your email you want to say something like; "Registered Nurse seeks employment in St Lucia". This immediately tells them without even opening up the mail who you are and what you want. It is also generic enough to bypass spam filters that are commonly used now on email products.
  • The rest of the details of your cover letter are shown below in the example
  • Attach your CV as a Word document

Things to keep in mind:

  • always be polite
  • always spell check your mail before you send
  • always make sure your name and contact details are included and clearly shown.

Follow up!

If you have received no response back in a week from sending your email, call them and say you are following up on the resume you sent them. If you didn't have a specific name to send your email to, now is the time to find out who your contact should be.

Here's a link to Interview Guides if you need more ideas.

For example: "Hello, my name is "Name" and I am calling to follow up on a CV I sent you last week. Who should I talk to regarding this?"
  • Be polite, be confident - this is your time to show your potential employer your best attributes
  • Find out if an opening exists. If so when will they be calling back? Try to set an interview time now if at all possible.
  • Have they read your resume and do your skills fit with jobs they would have available?
  • If nothing is available now, when would be a good time to get back to them?
  • Do they know of anyone else who may be looking for your skills?

Go with the conversation flow and see where it takes you. Maybe this is not the right place, however the Caribbean is very community based and companies may refer you to somewhere that is more suitable.

Go for it! - and Good Luck!
