Answers:
Q> How do I find a Caribbean
Job?
A> We have found that the best way to get a Caribbean Job is the old fashioned
way, and have outlined three simple steps to success;
Step 1 - Prepare your CV
Step 2 - Seek out the right Caribbean company
Step 3 - Contact
them individually
It works, and all the resources are here to succeed. We even list some specific
jobs, by island, to help your search.
Q> How do I know this works?
A> Our three steps are tried and true principles of traditional job searching.
Sure, going to an online "job site" is easier for you, but it's not
the solution for the Caribbean Job market.
We have lived in the Caribbean for 5 years by using this method!
Q> How long does it take
to get a job?
A> Things don't happen as quickly in the Caribbean Job market as they do
in other areas. Finding a job can take time, months even, so don't expect a
2-week turnaround. However there are better times to search for jobs as we
outline below.
Q> What is the best time
of year to look for Caribbean Jobs?
A> For tourist related work, the best time to be searching for Caribbean
Jobs is two to three months prior to the summer period. Other expatriate jobs
may begin at the end of the school year or summer holiday period. Some companies
also ramp up for the beginning of a new year, or new fiscal period. If you
really want to work in the Caribbean then start now!
Q> What if I need a job and
it is not the best time of year?
A> Caribbean Jobs come up at all times and timing will also depend on the
targeted market. Don't give up just because it's not "peak" season.
Jobs are available at all times due to extinuating circumstances. (I started
two jobs in October)
Q> Are some jobs easier to
get than others?
A> The Caribbean people continue to educate themselves and so there is more
emphasis to bring in consultants with higher skills. Nursing, Accounting, IT,
Legal, and of course Tourism are good fields.
Q> What is it like working
and living in the Caribbean?
A> Working and living in the Caribbean is not like what you are used to
at home (but that's why you came here, right?!) Be prepared for more formality
in the work place and don't be upset if you are treated as an "outsider" to
begin with, because that is what you are. However the people here are warm
and friendly and love to have fun. Living here requires a different mind set;
sometimes the grocery stores run out of things, sometimes the phone or TV doesn't
work, however it is a close community and people help each other. You learn
to take things as they come, and go with the flow.
Q> Are Caribbean Jobs tax
free?
A> Well the answer is, it depends. It depends on where you came from and
the tax laws there. It depends on which Island you are on and the local tax
laws. If you are here for a summer Tourism job or a one year contract then
don't get hung up on it and just enjoy the time. If you plan to stay long term
then you should talk to a knowledgable accountant or tax lawyer.
Q> Do you list jobs?
A> Yes we do! We list jobs in our Premium Membership area. Jobs
are listed per island and are updated monthly.
Q> What is your Premium
Membership?
Premium Membership is a FREE sign up for our visitors that allows
them into areas with detailed job information and resources. Inside this area
is resources based by Caribbean Island that include Personnel Agencies and
other companies and government links.
Q> I'm an Employer - how
do I list my job here?
We welcome employers and encourage you to list your jobs on the island
page that relates to you. If you have an immediate job opening you can request
it to be shown in our "Hot off the Beach"™ section for a small
monthly fee. Details are on our Employers page.
Q> How do I list my company
as a resource?
We are always looking for quality resources for our job seekers. You
can quickly and easily add you company here.
