Here are some tips to guide you in pursuing your next job during the holidays!

1. Use this time to re-evaluate your CV. Make sure it is clean, clear, and concise. With some little extra time you have during this period, give it a fresh look.

2. Research target companies. Use this time to get a better look at the type of company you would like to work for, and the island environment that works for you.

3. Practice interviewing with a coach, especially over the phone – which is most definitely how your first interview will be with companies in the Caribbean.

4. Most job seekers think the holidays are a bad time to look for work. Take advantage of this time when the competition is not as strong. Contact potential employers at a time when you won’t get lost in a sea of job applications.

5. Network while you socialize. Learn about other people’s jobs and companies. If you can, talk with others who are also looking for jobs in the Caribbean and collaborate on what works and what doesn’t.

6. Remain positive, laugh, do things that make you feel good. Acknowledge any negative feelings and thoughts you may have and then let them go. Rediscover the joy of the season.

7. Exercise. It relieves stress and keeps the endorphins flowing. Take the stairs. Park furthest from the door. Get out of your head and into your hands (hobbies, activities) and feet! And while you are taking good care of yourself, limit caffeine, sugar and alcohol. They will let you down as fast as they take you up.
